Movement is...what? I like to say things are always in motion and either falling apart or coming together. Sometimes it's hard to tell which one, but it's always easy to tell when it's happening too fast. At least, I think so. Lately I've been worried that things can move so fast for so long that you either just used to the craziness and consider it normal or you acknowledge the craziness and give up.
Movement...is really the opposite of giving up. Moving indicates that you are either in control or attempting to be and that really how you avoid falling down the drain in life most of the time. I live by the saying "you don't lose until you quit and failing is not quitting" and sometimes that's a hard pill for people to swallow because it's so easy to feel powerless in modern society, but once you decide to take control, it's hard to stop!
Lately I've been really considering what are goals in life and what do they truly mean, in an objective, more human sense. In America the common path for people to follow is school, romantic endeavors, house, kids, die-in that order, usually. But now with the effect of social media in every facet of our lives, it's a new game out there for everyone in many ways. Life doesn't move in a linear fashion and more and more often we are seeing people give control of their lives over to artificial things and leave validation of their pursuits and passions to the amount of traction they get on social media.
People are ceding control of their happiness to the amount of touch their social media posts get, and that totally bastardizes the way our brains are wired and confuses how we give and receive joy, love and praise.
When I reference movement, I mean real life, determined, purposeful progress, not the dopamine dump one gets when their post got some shares on Facebook. Too many people are treating their happiness like a product and the price is attention; then when markets are down, they inevitable share more and more of their soul hoping there will be new buyers.
If you have become the person that has given up control of your happiness to the great invisibles of modern life, I challenge you start moving. Put your hands on something and do it. Take your feet (or crutches or wheelchair!) and go somewhere for a reason. Open your mouth to talk to someone in real life. Don't toil away at life and save those precious moments for strangers on the internet, create movement in your life and do it with purpose and intent, don't just sway with the masses.
Stop believing in the imaginary things in the world, and start believing in yourself!
